1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I have answered this question with the video here:
I used a program called Windows Movie Maker to answer Question 1 which allows me to make videos with clipart, transition effects and other features included.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Gospel Magazines representation methods of all key elements sums up to be a calm, positive, happy environment. However, Hip Hop Magazines representation methods are completely the opposite - Exciting, substantial amount of gossip and a hyper environment.
Gospel Magazines use a variety of gospel artists, pastors and models, mostly adults. I have challenged this aspect by using a youth model for the front page, double page spread and contents page.
I have answered this question in more detail in the video I have created using Camtasia Studio
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Supermarkets are the main source for Gospel Magazines to be sold, including online retailers. Stationers, garages, clubs, music venues, festivals etc are weak because Gospel Magazines do not blend in these areas. Also, Gospel Magazines are sold mainly near churches as there are more Christians engaged within reading Gospel Magazines.
I have answered this question in more detail in the video I have created using Camtasia Studio
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience would be young adults and adults. I have asked a few friends around my age (16-17) if they would read the magazine and their answer has been yes. I’ve also asked adults in my church and they also agreed. 95% of 200 people I asked between ages 16-40 agreed that they would read Gospel Magazines.
I have answered this question in more detail in the video I have created using Camtasia Studio
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I have attracted my audience by studying the Gospel Magazines Gospel Today and Gospel USA very carefully
· Uses a medium-face shot
· 2/4 colours using Pink, White, Yellow and Black
· Good complexion of model
· Model’s smiling
· Structured hierarchy leading from the title to the face to “The “Star” you never knew”
I have used these main elements from Gospel Today to create my Front Cover
· Blue with some clouds as the background
· Smiling couple of Bebe and Cece Winans
· Airbrushed pictures
· Not many articles on page giving the audience the greed to look through the articles
I have used also these elements to create my Front Cover
These elements together created a simple yet effective front cover drawing the audience’s attention from their sleeves.
· I used a full face medium shot
· Gospel UK located at the top right corner
· Structured hierarchy goes in an anti-clockwise direction from the face of the model to the name “Olufemi Coker” to the “A Star is born!” to “Sarah Doughton’s untold story” to the title of the magazine
· Natural colourful background, beads are at the background to represent calmness and peace
· Actor is smiling
· A usage of 2 colours throughout the magazine
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have past experience with Adobe Photoshop from the early ages of 15, allowing me to easily edit, transform and manipulate images without the need of help or tutorials. What I have learnt is adding a gradient on top of the picture to give a realistic effect. I have explained this more efficiently in the video.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I have learnt substantial amount of things. From as small as taking pictures with friends in a corridor and adding random headlines to as big as attending photo shoots, manipulating the misc-en-scene, targeting the right audience. I have explained this more efficiently in the video
